This book collects and catalogs 808 Japanese family emblems (Kamon) used to decorate and identify an individual and family. The devices are similar to the badges and coats of arms in European heraldic tradition, which likewise are used to identify individuals and families. Kamon are often referred to as crests in Western literature, the crest being a European heraldic device similar to the mon in function. Japanese mon influenced Louis Vuitton's monogram designs through Japonisme in Europe in the late 1800s. The emblems have been classified into ten categories and seven historical periods so as to provide a new reading of these data through infographics.
